About Gerald Mohlabe

At the age of 7, Gerald Mohlabe was told by his grade 2 teacher that he was not intelligent, therefore he must go home and play. The words of his female teacher were like a sword piercing through his heart and he was highly disturbed and devastated by the words of his teacher. His self-confidence plummeted such that he lost interest in going to school. Gerald’s mother noticed that there was something wrong with her 7 year old boy and she asked what was wrong and Gerald said with tears in his eyes, “My teacher told me that I am not intelligent, all that I must do is to go home and play.” Gerald’s mother was disturbed by those words but she began motivating him by saying, “Your teacher is wrong about you my boy, I know as your mother that you are intelligent.”

Little Gerald was motivated by the words of his mother, he began believing in himself and he worked very hard to excel in his studies until he became the BA degree graduate specializing in social sciences (Psychology, Sociology and Social Work) with the University of Limpopo. The terrible experience Gerald went through with his grade 2 female teacher taught him to believe that we must not let the negative opinion of other people become a reality; rather we must let the dream within us become a reality.

While at the University, Gerald Mohlabe began training leaders who are to date making a huge impact in business, in the workplace, in churches, in politics, in education and in government and he became popular at the University through his outstanding communication skills and style. Gerald believes that leadership is the determing factor that draws a thin line of distinction between successful organizations and unsuccessful organizations. He normally says these words, "When leadership takes the center stage in your company or organization, outstanding results will take the center stage."

Gerald Mohlabe is the founder and CEO of Goal Driven Consulting Company.
